Letter to the Sports Editor…GCB’s Pepsi/Carib T/20 misrepresentations and cover up

Dear Editor,
It is regretful the GCB Tournament Director now attempts to cover serious malpractices by offering misrepresentations and contradictions.
The Tournament Director, Mr. Robin Singh, in his response to the press dated 23 November 2011, is now saying the game was “abandoned due to the inclement weather”.
Consequently umpires could not have (and never) requested a team list as the game would not now possible, upon the insistence of Mr. Anand Sanasie, Secretary of the GCB and a WICB Director, and Mr. Robin Singh.
According to all cricketing regulations worldwide, when a game is abandoned prior its commencement due to an external factor such as bad weather, points are equally awarded.
As a result, with two teams now on equal points both having lost one game each, the next factor becomes net run rate. In which case, the East Coast Jaguars possessed a better rate.
The GCB therefore by its own admission contradicts and discards its own statement that “net run rate was a non-issue”.
This is an obvious case of match/tournament fixing as instead of the East Coast Jaguars advancing to the next round, the East Bank Pirates did.
After the ‘abandoned match’, Mr. Robin Singh, Tournament Director took my mobile number and promised to call me by 6pm that evening concerning the arrangements for the next round, the Super Eight phase, but never did.
The following day, miraculously, the East Bank Pirates had advanced to the next round, as their names appeared in that day’s newspapers.
I called the Guyana Cricket Board without luck to obtain a clarification from Mr. Singh and each time he was purportedly busy. Out of frustration, I asked other team officials to help me follow up.
As the East Coast Jaguars automatically qualified to the Super Eight phase, based on a superior net run rate, then simply publicizing in the newspapers this fact would have sufficed.
In addition, it must also be noted, that the days leading up to the final match, the GCB was in regular contact with team officials.
In one such instance, the Tournament Organizer requested the final game between the East Coast Jaguars and the East Bank Pirates originally scheduled for 9am be shifted to 1pm.
So suggesting contact could not be made with the team management after the match is a further case of cover up.
This has all the evidence of an attempt to fix a match and I would like to urge sponsors, Carib and Pepsi, to be wary of this dangerous practice which could see their reputations permanently tarnished.
As we do not have the financial wherewithal to file an injunction against the GCB and sponsors, I have since transmitted my letter of complaint to the Anti-Corruption and Security Department (ACSU) of International Cricket Committee (ICC) to investigate this matter as this is a clear case of a National Board engaging in practices which can lead to jail sentences, as seen with the Pakistani cricketers in England a few weeks ago.
Mr. Singh’s other futile and irrelevant arguments are an attempt to distract from the core issue, their attempts to fix a tournament.
East Coast Jaguars submitted on time prior to the commencement of the tournament, a team list consisting of 14 players and several standbys including myself as manager, along with a coach, Chandrika Jeenarine.
We apologised beforehand to the Guyana Cricket Board of our inability to attend the inaugural meeting due to the extremely short notices, for which they accepted and asked us to uplift the team clothing that afternoon prior to the first match, which was done.
Revised fixtures were also given to the team including new match times. During the first match I was asked by the organizers to assist the scorers in identifying the players of my team during the match, so not knowing who the Team Manager was how to get in contact with me is yet another lie.
