A 32-year old man was killed after the tray of a Bedford truck he was driving fell on him. Dead is Leon Phillips called “Big Head” of Regent Street, Georgetown.
The incident happened at the corner of Albert and Church Streets around 14:00 hours yesterday.
Kaieteur News was told that Phillips had used a tree stump to prop the tray of the truck while he fixed a mechanical problem that had developed.
According to reports, the stump crumbled under the weight of the tray and fell on his neck, killing him almost instantly.
Eyewitnesses could only stare in horror at the man’s body as the life was being squeeze out of it.
Kaieteur News was told that Phillips was employed with RRT group of companies as a driver.
Relatives at the scene refused to divulge any information about the man.
His wife who was at the scene was inconsolable and she too declined to say anything to the media.
