A family of four was left homeless yesterday after fire of unknown origin gutted their two-bedroom home at Lot 110 High Reef Albion on the Corentyne.
The house was occupied by Rookmin Motielall, her husband, Latchman, and three children, who woke up just in time to flee the burning building.
According to Motilall, the family was awoken around 03:30 hrs by immense heat and crackling sounds.
Their daughter, Aneesa, got up, realized that the building was on fire and raised an alarm. Motielall’s husband, Latchman then discovered most of their home was already ablaze.
They fled the building, which was completely ravaged by the time a fire tender from the Rose Hall Town Fire Station arrived.
The children in the home were Shazam, Nicole and Aneesa. The family had been living there for six years.
She added that the fire started from the kitchen in the bottom flat. The family lost most of their valuables including a refrigerator, wall-divider, DVD player, wardrobe, mattresses and beds. A motorcycle belonging to Mr Motielall was also destroyed in the fire.
The Motielalls are appealing to the general public for assistance. Mr. Motielall is employed with the Albion Estate. They can be contacted on telephone 322- 1185.
