Nine teams will battle for top honours when the South Turkeyen Sports Committee hosts a dominoes competition at the Guyana Legion Hall, Carifesta Avenue on Thursday November 24. Among those in contention are the Guyana Prison Service, Under the Tree, Guyana’s Legion, Guyoil, Edward B Beharry, Black Stallion Warriors, Sophia Massive, U6 and the National Insurance.
The teams will battle for trophies donated by several politicians and members of the business community including Minister of Sports, Frank Anthony, Attorney-at-Law, Basil Williams, Melbourne Inn (Guyana) Ltd, Giftland Office Max, Trophy Stall, Oto and Akin and Antartic Maintenance and Repairs.
Each team is required to contribute a $10,000 entrance fee to the organizer, Johnny ‘Overseas’ Barnwell, before the tournament gets underway.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Prison Service team sent an ominous warning to the other units when it amassed 85 games to capture the most recently organized tournament in the Guyoil Canteen. Under the Tree Dominoes Club scored 71 games and finished second, while the Guyoil team closed off the podium spots with 61 games.
Lionel Cave and Anthony Leonard amassed 18 games apiece for the winners, while Quintin Proctor won 17 games. Ronald Yearwood and Bhynarine Paltoo both won 17 games for Under the Tree Dominoes Club.
Once again ‘Overseas’ Barnwell organized the activity and prizes were donated by the business community.
