‘Golden Jaguars’ receive praise from Minister of Culture Youth and Sport
History was created on November 11 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. This historic golden 
achievement which was accomplished by the ‘Golden Jaguars’ against Trinidad and Tobago in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, saw Guyana defeating the Soca Warriors 2-1 on home soil to qualify for the next round of the FIFA World Cup qualifying.
With the team’s accomplishment two weeks ago, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dr. Frank Anthony thought it be fit to express his gratitude to the ‘Golden Jaguars’ Team on their historic achievement.

This achievement saw Ricky Shakes and Leon Cort cataloging the golden goals for Guyana which aided in their success in the crucial match of which Mark Xavier, the Manager of the team was confident of winning.
Xavier told Kaieteur Sport a few weeks before the game during a training session that when this event occurs; (when Guyana defeats Trinidad and Tobago) it will be a blissful moment for Guyana which will comprise of an amusing memory.
This moment that was created by the Jags was indeed a blissful and amusing moment for the Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, who told this publication in a hoarse voice, which indicated that he was chanting with the twelfth man in the Stadium that evening, “This is beautiful football, they (Golden Jaguars) played to their best and this really and truly represent our country (Guyana), I think you can see the overwhelming support tonight and I know this gave the guys that added inspiration in bringing the victory for us.”
Dr. Frank Anthony went on to say that with that success, Guyana’s football will be taken to a totally new level as the talent is evident within us.
He significantly noted that the Synthetic Track which is under construction will be facilitating a Football Field in the centre as the infrastructure will hold about ten thousand persons.
Concluding the invited comment at the National Stadium, the Minster said that he will not be able to say what will be the Government support at present but indicated that they are in discussion with the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) as it pertains to the support from the Government.
Guyana will play Mexico, Costa Rica and El Salvador in Group B in the Third-Stage of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers starting June.
The team will travel to Mexico to play their first game on June 8 and will host Costa Rica at the National Stadium on June 12.
Guyana will then travel to face El Salvador on September 7 and four days later entertain the El Salvadorians at Providence. (Juanita Hooper)
