Following competition last Saturday at the East Ruimveldt Community Centre, which brought an end to the round robin segment, 16 teams has now advanced to the knockout stages of the Guinness in the Street Football Championship sponsored by Banks DIH.
According to a release, the tournament will take a break and resume shortly after National Elections, which have been slated for next Monday, November 28.
The teams entering the tournament were placed in eight groups of four teams, and cash prizes were given to the top four in each group. The winner collected $30,000, while the other places were rewarded with $25,000, $20,000 and $15,000 respectively.
The teams going forward to the knockout stages are: Alexander Village, North-Last Entrance, East Front Road, Hope Street- Tiger Bay, Globe Yard, Lodge Housing Scheme, Durban Street, Broad Street, West Back Road, Albouystown B, BV, Charlestown, West Front Road, Back Circle, Queen Street-Tiger Bay and Island All star.
Meanwhile, in results from matches played at East Ruimveldt on Saturday; Alexander Village beat Kingston 5-3. Sheldon Gravesande 1st 6th and 23rd min and Shem Porter 7th and 9th min scored for the winners, while Nigel Denny 10th 13th and 22nd min led Kingston’s fight.
Buxton beat East Ruimveldt 2-1 with Sherwin Griffith 6th and 8th min leading the East Coast side, while Mark Hart 5th min replied for East.
Laing Avenue defeated Durban Street 2-1. Yance Rox 8th min and Jevan McKenzie 13th min led Laing Avenue’s victory march, while Godfrey Marshall 7th min responded for Durban Street.
Albouystown B overcame Castello Housing Scheme 3-1 with goals from Delroy D’Aguiar 6th and 25th min
Omally Nassy 7th min for Albouystown and for Castello Housing Scheme, Sherwin Anthony 18th min replied.
West Back Road and Leopold Street drew 2-2. Goal scorers – West Back Road; Ned Fraser 3rd min and Dwayne Daniels 7th min, while for Leopold Street – Omallo Williams 5th and 18th min.
Globe Yard edged Festival City 3-2. For Globe Yard – Germaine Grimes 11th and 19th min and Anthony France 23rd min scored, while for Festival City Odell Williams 17th and 25th min had a double.
Charlestown through Devon Charles 3rd and 25th min goals got past Norton Street 1. An own goal was responsible for Norton Street getting on the score sheet.
And BV overcame Albouystown A 2-1 with Gramie Harris 9th min and Quacy Price 18th min netting for the winners, while for Albouystown A, Andrew Murray 4th min had the lone response.
