National Hardware (Guyana Ltd) has demonstrated staunch corporate chivalry when it presented a set of football gears to two teams from the Tiger Bay community currently engaged in the Guinness Greatest of the Street football tournament, staged at venues countrywide.
Director of the business entity, Nicholas Boyer yesterday morning acquiesced to the request of the two captains and donated several pairs of indoor football boots, hoses, trunks, jerseys and other gears to the two teams at his Water Street business place yesterday morning. He disclosed that he was merely responding to a request for the gears by members of the two teams and since he enjoyed great support from the residents of the Tiger Bay community he could not possibly say no.

The Director was also joined by his store manager, Fizul Sattaur and the latter individual’s assistant during the simple ceremony. “This is actually our first donation to this team but we are always supporting various community based initiatives,” said Mr. Boyer. He further stated that it gives him great pleasure to see young people engaged in productive activity. He wished the team well in their future games.
Captain of the ‘B’ team Alpha Fletchman accepted the gift on behalf of the footballers and extended gratitude to his benefactor. He further assured Mr. Boyer that the gift was timely and well appreciated. “We will aspire to win this tournament as a gesture of appreciation,” he said.
Both Tiger Bay teams are currently engaged in the Guinness Greatest of the Street football tournament and have experienced mixed fortunes in 3 outings apiece so far. The ‘A’ team, captained by Keoma Gravesande, lost their first match to West Front Road 3-0 and benefited from a walk over against Buxton. They then notched up a 1-0 victory over Eagles of Linden.
The ‘B’ team defeated Kitty 1-0 shortly before inflicting a beating on the Islands All Stars and subsequently, Stevedore Housing Scheme. Both teams will resume duties sometime next week.
