The University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC) will be holding the 10TH Convocation Ceremony at the University Square on Saturday. According to UGBC, at least 164 students coming from four faculties/schools, spread over thirteen programmes, will don their fineries, special gowns and official insignia for the eventful occasion. There were 93 students who graduated in the first convocation in 2002. The Berbice campus was established in November 2000.
It is anticipated that the Faculty of Agriculture with one degree programme will be sending three students to the star-studded dais to receive their parchments.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences, with four disciplines, will be graduating thirty (30) students in the following programmes: Associate Degree in Biology, 16; Associate Degree in Chemistry, 4; Associate Degree in Mathematics, 1; and Diploma in Computer Science, 9.
The Faculty of Social Sciences, with four disciplines, will be graduating fifty- eight (58) students in the following programmes: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Management, 13; Diploma in Public Management, 14; Diploma in Accounts, 13; Diploma in Marketing, 10; and Diploma in Social Work, 8.
The Faculty of Education and Humanities, with four disciplines, will be graduating seventy- three (73) students in the following programmes with various specialisations: Bachelor of Education- Administration, 9; Bachelor of Education- Primary, 16; Bachelor of Education- Early Childhood, 4, Bachelor of Education- Social Studies, 7; Certificate of Education- Administration, 3; Certificate of Education- Primary, 18; Certificate of Education- Early Childhood Education 8; Certificate of Education- Social Studies, 8.
According to UGBC tradition, the Convocation will be presided over by Dr. Prem Misir, Pro Chancellor of the University of Guyana. To manage and oversee the official proceedings and the hand out Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees will be the Vice- Chancellor Prof Lawrence Carrington; Professor Daizal Samad, Director of UGBC; Registrar, Mr. Vincent Alexander, Deans and Coordinators of the various academic programmes at the Berbice Campus.
Guest Speaker for the occasion will be Mr. Doodnauth (Deo) Persaud (AA), CEO of the Neal and Massey Group of Companies, Guyana Ltd.
The University has issued an advisory to all graduates that they should assemble at the University Square by 3:45pm for the traditional procession.
