Reformation of Guyana was one of the most critical serious issues promoted by senior members of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) when they addressed a large crowd at Queenstown, Essequibo Coast, Thursday evening.
Dr.Rupert Roopnaraine addressed the eager crowd, by first enlightening the members that his party campaign approach is based on the ‘truth’.
Roopnaraine said that in every area that APNU has gone to speak to people the party has found people who are utterly disgusted with their lot today.
When APNU is elected on November 29 the party will bring immediate relief to the suffering people of Guyana and will focus on youths, the APNU Presidential candidate said.
He said that the work ahead is like a mountain to climb.
He noted that the work would also depend on both the Governmental and non Governmental peoples of Guyana. His party will focus on bringing back village councils, reform and the reconstruction of governance in a nation of the 21st century.
He reminded his audience that APNU also promises to conduct forensic audits on all Governmental organizations. He lamented that the country will not go forward unless a division of the past is heeded.
Presidential candidate David Arthur Granger zeroed in on his party’s proposals for Essequibo, especially focusing on the transforming the Education system, and creating jobs in the Region.
Granger said that his Government intends to bring about real development. Essequibo is rich but has been stifled, partially for jobs.
While plans are afoot to transform the Education system, Granger noted that young people will be provided with opportunities that would allow them to remain on the Essequibo Coast and to compete on a level play field.
Granger said on the creation of jobs, his party intends to target Agri-processing, entrepreneurship, the timber industry and furniture field.
APNU intends also to keep teachers in Guyana and will pursue a reformation of the police force.
Granger said that his party will give to all teachers a laptop and will increase the age of retirement to 65.
He noted, too, that his Government will address the issues of illegal fire arms, gun-running, narco trafficking and piracy. “But the police force will first have to be comprehensively transformed in order for that to happen.”
Also in attendance were APUN members, Robert Corbin, Amna Ally, Wazeer Latiff, Annette Forks, Jinnah Rahaman and Naipaul.
