Berbice successes over the last four years are the envy of Cricket Boards across Guyana. It was quite simple, Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) organises the appropriate tournaments, top performers are selected into zones on completion of the Inter Zone competitions, thereafter an Elite squad is selected and trained, and then the Berbice team is named.
In 2011, the Ancient County has won the Under-15, 17, 19, senior 50-overs and the Hits & Jams Twenty20 tournaments. The teams and management of the Zones and County have always been selected by the Berbice Cricket Board.
In the current Carib/Pepsi Twenty/20 tournament, three teams were selected by BCB to participate namely: Corentyne, New Amsterdam/Canje and West Berbice, despite very late notification by the organiser.
The Berbice Cricket Board was appalled when the Management/Team of one of the teams was altered by the organiser.
This is most disrespectful and speaks of contempt by the organiser for Berbice Cricket Board. It leaves the Board to wonder how the sponsor Carib/Pepsi could condone such behavior.
The Berbice Cricket Board as per the rules of the competition selected two (2) teams to participate in Saturday’s game at Skeldon. Alteration/deletion of personnel by the organiser would be viewed by the Berbice Cricket Board as an attempt by the Organiser to exclude all Berbicians from the tournament.
This scenario will leave the Berbice Cricket Board no other choice but to withdraw from the competition. Any team selected by the organiser would not be recognised by the Berbice Cricket Board and would not be a representative of the Ancient County.
Following are the lists of the Berbice teams:
Corentyne Team 1: Sewnarine Chattergoon, Richard Ramdeen, Assad Fudadin, Narsingh Deonarine, Royston Crandon, Rajiv Ivan, Keon De Jesus, Anthony Bramble (Captain), Jonathan Foo, Stephen Latcha (Vice Captain), Clinton Pestano, Eon Hooper, Mark Lionel, Keron Fraser.
West Berbice Team 2: Romain Budram, Karamdat Bissoondial, Renwick Batson, Devon Clements (Vice Captain), Keith Fraser, Khemraj Mahadeo, Keon Joseph, Seon Hetmyer, Kevin Ramdeen, Brandon Bess, Delbert Hicks, Sherwin Mc Pherson, Krishnadat Ramoo (Captain), Raffel Ogle.
Other Players: Joemal La Fleur, Romario De Jonge (Opening Batsman), Shawn Pereira (Leg Spinner), Jason Sinclair (Wicketkeeper Batsman), Devinshwar Prashad (All-rounder).
