Outstanding performers of the Rockaway Auto Sales, Car Rental and Bicycle Store sponsored cricket competitions along the East Coast Demerara were rewarded last weekend at a lavish ceremony at the entity’s location at Lusignan.
Trophies and medals were in abundance as Managing Director of the company, Hafeez Ali, said his aim is to properly reward the players for their efforts.
After the formal aspects of the proceedings were over, the gathering was treated to a cocktail reception, which lasted way into the night.
Ali said that while he’s pleased with the way the Super and Premier League competitions were executed, he expressed disappointed that no member of the Guyana Cricket Board turned up to the event, despite the fact that he shifted the timing to suit their schedule.
He argued that he’s pumped millions of dollars into cricket along the East Coast of Demerara and doesn’t deserve to be treated with such disrespect.
Despite the snub, Ali promised to continue investing in East Coast and Guyana cricket.
The event was attended by executives of the East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB), whose president Bissoondyal Singh, commended Ali for his continuous support of the gentleman’s game and thanked the players for putting on a good show during the tournaments.
Singh said without sponsorship, cricket cannot survive as he urged other persons and businesses to pitch in to ensure Guyana and West Indies cricket returns to the top.
