Man with drugs in anus gets bail

A man who was said to have concealed a quantity of drugs in his anus to evade police ranks appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, yesterday, to answer a charge of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Delon Anthony, said to be a fish vendor residing at Lot 58 Forshaw Street, Queenstown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine –Beharry and pleaded not guilty. On November 10, he allegedly had in his possession some 12 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The prosecutions said that  police ranks were conducting routine searches in the West Ruimveldt area when they observed the defendant whom they claimed was acting suspicious.
The officers subsequently stopped the defendant and proceeded to search him. They found  a quantity of the illegal substance in the man’s anus. He was further arrested and the drug was weighed.
The defendant then told the court that he had been detained at the police station for more than 72 hours, beyond the legal stipulated holding period.
The court subsequently ordered that an investigation into the reason for the delayed detention.
Anthony was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 and ordered to make his next court appearance on January 4.
