A woman residing at 3615 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded after she was charged with drug possession in Bartica. Ayodele Williams appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry and pleaded not guilty.
In Bartica she had in her possession 239 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. It was said that on November 11, at the Bartica Ferry Stelling, police acting on information, contacted Williams who was waiting to board a boat. The woman was subsequently taken to the Bartica Police Station where a search was conducted on her belongings.
At the station, a search was also conducted on the body of the defendant. The drug was discovered by ranks in a plastic bag strapped to the woman’s body under her dress. The defendant had reportedly been wearing shorts underneath her apparel where the narcotic was located.
The facts continued that the woman was told of the offence, cautioned and detained. The cannabis weighed 239 grams. Williams will be facing the magistrate at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on November 17.
