Mahaicony residents are seeking help from the authorities after suffering financial and nutritional losses due to chemical contamination of a drain used by the local animals as drinking water.
According to Nalinie, the NDC would usually send someone to cut the grass around the trench in the Backdam, but since last year she has found them spraying the grass with chemicals that have contaminated the water.
She stated that her pregnant goats would lose their young continuously and that 20 of her goats have died in the past year. The goats were repeatedly taken to the vet to receive injections, but that proved less than helpful.
Nalinie complained that her sheep have succumbed to the same fate. She has lost 3 sheep in less than a week.
She stated that she spoke to a NAREI representative, but nothing has been done.
