Police are attempting to locate ex-convict Randy Morris in connection with the shooting last Wednesday
of dredge owner Kenneth Anthony Joaquin in West Ruimveldt.
Morris is at present before the court for an armed robbery that was committed last September near Bourda Market and again for allegedly robbing a female American citizen in February.
The accused failed to appear in court on Thursday and a warrant was issued for his arrest yesterday when he again failed to show up. Morris’s attorney, Adrian Thompson, had indicated that his client is ill.
Kaieteur News understands that police want to ascertain whether Morris is one of the motorcycle bandits who snatched $5M from Joaquin before shooting him in the left leg.
According to reports, the dredge owner had stopped his vehicle in Hunter Street, West Ruimveldt, when two men on a black CG motorcycle also stopped nearby.
Eyewitnesses said that the pillion rider approached the businessman’s Toyota Allion, opened the rear door and grabbed a haversack with the money. The bandit then shot Joaquin before escaping with his accomplice.
Morris has appeared before the courts on several other occasions for armed robbery and other charges.
In April, 2008, the suspect and two others were remanded for unlawfully having in their possession six live rounds of .32 ammunition and one .32 Ruger revolver.
In July, 2008, Morris and five others were remanded for allegedly robbing businessman Satnarine Sahadeo of $4 million cash, a cellular phone, a handgun and a quantity of jewellery near Cowan and Water streets, Kingston.
In August, 2008, Morris, former policeman Nathan Fraser and three others were remanded in connection with an armed robbery at Canje, Berbice.
Morris was also questioned in connection with the execution-style killing of Vibert Weekes, who was gunned down in Robb Street in January 2010.
