New Building Society 2nd Div. 40 over cricket
A superb innings of 131 not out by Jason Sinclair and a fine bowling effort by West Indies female pacer Erva Giddings (4 for 26) combined to lead Rose Hall Town Bakewell to their second successive win in the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) 2011 New Building Society 2nd Division tournament.
Batting first after being invited to do so by Nigg Intruders, Rose Hall Town Bakewell were given a solid opening partnership by National Under-19 opener Dominic Rikhi and Berbice Under-17 player Nicholas Cameron before Rikhi was trapped LBW by medium pacer Basil Narine for 31 (3×4) with the score at 53 for 1 in over number 8.
Cameron was joined by the aggressive Sinclair and they took the score to 103 in the 17th over before Cameron was stumped for a well played 35 off Suraj Paltoo. Sinclair then took the attack to the visitor’s bowlers as the middle order suffered a mini collapse. His innings of 131* came off 92 balls (16×4 4×6).
When their 40 overs expired, Rose Hall Town Bakewell were 242 for 9. Erva Giddings was with Sinclair at the end unbeaten on 6, the two sharing a last wicket stand of 34.
Nigg Intruders, needing to score 243, suffered an early set back when Harrinarine Chattergoon was beaten by the pace and swing of Giddings and was caught by Michael Hicks at first slip in the first over for 4.
They never recovered to threaten the Bakewell boys score despite an attractive 43 from skipper Sham Sunidra and an attacking 26 not out from Kenneth Lallbeharry batting at No. 11. The innings closed in the 28th over at 145 all out with Giddings ending with figures of 4-26 from 8 overs. Fine support came from Eon Hooper 2-20.
