Almost a month ago murder accused John Blanchard was attacked and beaten by fellow prison inmates. To date no charges have been made.
According to reports the most recent attack on Blanchard was on Friday last. This publication was told that Blanchard was attacked by prison inmates at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after a court appearance.
Initial reports are that the man was attacked in full view of police ranks who seemed to have expressed no concern. The lawmen only made attempts to render assistance after the man’s sister pleaded for help.
When contacted yesterday, Director of Prisons Dale Erskine said that the investigations are ongoing and that the police have already taken statements in the matter.
According to Erskine he is only aware about the first two attacks and that those are being investigated. The most recent attack, Erskine said, should be investigated by the police.
Almost a month ago Blanchard was attacked and beaten by inmates of the Camp Street Prison. There are reports that the man was also sodomized. This, however, has been refuted by Prison officials. The man who alleged killed his three children was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital and sent away.
However upon his return to the facility the day after the man was attacked and beaten again. According to reports it was only after the second attack by inmates that prison officials placed the man in isolation.
On October 9, last Blanchard went berserk stabbing his three children, Daniel, Belica and Joy, while they were sleeping at their Soesdyke home. Belica and Daniel reportedly died almost instantly while Joy succumbed to several stab wounds about her body a few days later while being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
Initially Blanchard was charged separately for his children’s murder. However on Friday last those charges were withdrawn and the police reinstituted a new charge, charging the man jointly for the three murders.
