Mark Vieira feels he could hold off Mayers’ Ford Focus
GT&T / Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship
Local speed ace Mark Vieira is predicting that Guyana has what it takes to hold off the anticipated threat of Barbados’ Roger Mayers’ Ford Focus come Sunday when the final leg of the GT&T / Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship is held at the South Dakota Circuit.
Vieira, who will be driving his recently acquired Mazda RX8 speaking with Kaieteur Sport via telephone yesterday, said that his machine has been producing some terrific lap times and he is optimistic that come Sunday, fans will be able to see the full repertoire of the locals, adding that the visiting racers will certainly have a difficult task attempting to upstage them.
“The car is in perfect condition and I’m quite satisfied with its performance so far so I feel confident that we could defend home turf,” Vieira told this newspaper.

Vieira’s optimism stems from the fact that the car has been more consistent, the handling is much better with the right balance and according to him it is now his turn to produce the kind of driving that will justify the hard work done by his team.
The Focus on its last visit to Guyana was clearly in a class of its own, shattering the lap record in the process and will be returning to Guyana in excellent shape, having destroyed the opposition during the second leg of competition in Barbados in August.
The Circuit which was resurfaced earlier in the year is in fantastic condition and fans will be in for a treat with some blistering times expected.
Vieira informed that the Organisers are putting everything in place in terms of comfort and safety that will ensure racing fans have a trouble free and enjoyable day that will guarantee that a positive legacy is left.
