Two of the members of the Miss Guyana World committee are now speaking out, with one
Carwyn and Nikosa Holland with Arti Cameron after she was crowned Miss Guyana World on July 31, 2011.
of them claiming she was told directly by one of the main organizers that Arti Cameron would not go to Miss World if she did not sign a contract.
Carwyn Holland, who organized the pageant with his wife Nikosa (as National Director), said he would not comment on what the committee members have to say and would speak to the press when he is ready.
Two members of the committee that organized the pageant contacted Kaieteur News after seeing news reports, and said that they wanted to make it clear that they were not involved in any of the post-pageant activities that resulted in Miss Cameron not going to Miss World.
In fact, the committee members said they wanted to distance themselves from the Hollands, saying that decisions they helped craft were often brushed aside while the Hollands organized the pageant.
Relations between Miss Cameron and the Hollands went downhill after she refused to sign the contract that was presented to her and insisted on modifications.
One of the committee members who spoke with Kaieteur News on the basis of anonymity said that one of the organizers vowed that if Miss Cameron did not sign the contract on a particular date at a particular time, he would ensure that she did not go to Miss World.
The franchise holder of Miss Guyana World is supposedly UK-based Guyanese businessman, Ken Chung, who has been listed by the local organizers as the International Director.
The Miss Guyana World scandal broke after press reports quoting committee members sought to blame Miss Cameron for foot dragging, which stalled her UK visa application and resulted in her not being able to attend Miss World.
However, the team that supported Miss Cameron for the pageant came out with a strongly worded statement denying any delay on Miss Cameron’s part. They quoted a release by the organisers which said Miss Cameron applied for her visa immediately after receiving the required sponsorship letter from the Hollands.
Ken Chung told a Kaieteur News reporter that he knew nothing of the press reports blaming Miss Cameron.
This was after a press release stated that Miss Cameron would represent Guyana at next year’s Miss World pageant if she did not get to go this year. A new Miss World would be crowned in London today.
It appears that the organizers had already informed Miss World that Miss Cameron would not be going to the pageant this year because she did not get a visa.
“We are very sorry to not have received Miss Guyana. I understood the reason being it was difficult to get a visa,” Julia Morley, the owner of Miss World told Kaieteur News via email.
However, while Miss World was being told that Miss Cameron would not be representing Guyana, the organizers were telling Miss Cameron that she would be accepted late.
Miss Cameron received her visa eight days after the pageant began with the preliminary competitions already in full swing. And at that point she did not even have a ticket to London or was a wardrobe provided by the organisers, so by then it would make no sense for Miss Cameron to go to the pageant.
So by Miss Cameron refusing to go to the pageant at that late stage, the organisers could then revert to saying she refused to go and hence deny her the opportunity to represent Guyana next year, Team Arti suggested.
“We have suggested that to save disappointment for this young lady should be allowed to enter our Miss World next year when we are holding it in June/July. I hope this will help to appease some of the disappointment for both her and us,” Morley stated in a response to Kaieteur News.
“…The current organisers have a range of responsibilities to Miss Cameron to promote her as a beauty queen.
“It would be profoundly unethical if these same organisers are found to be the ‘source or ‘officials referenced in unfavourable and inaccurate news reports about the reigning queen,” Team Arti stated.

This is one confusing story.
What a tangled web we weave when we lie, cheat and practice to deceive
What a tangled web we weave when we lie, cheat and practice to deceive
What a tangled web we weave when we lie, cheat and practice to deceive
So what, two Miss Guyana representatives next year? Come on ; get organised.
and the drama continues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arti Cameron was crowned July 31st 2011. The responsibilities of the Organizers/Franchise holder to Miss Guyana World is to see that she represents Guyana in the best possible way..wardrobe, makeup, training, consultations, Visa, information about ticket, and expectations, etc and all necessary implements to compete at The Miss World pagent.
Anyone ..Miss World,Miss Universe, Sports personalities, diplomats, citizens, etc that are representing Guyana anywhere, anyhow, become Ambassadors for our Country, therefore, that representation must be of the highest calibre. The franchise holders, organizers must be held accountable to our Government, Guyanese abroad and, to the Guyanese citzens at home to ensure that the Arrowhead is flying Proudly..Always. Guidelines, policies and procedures must be put in place and enforced to make sure that this fiasco never happens again, and Guyana looked upon as a “pappy-show”. Imagine..no wardrobe, makeup, consultations, guidance, competing tools, etc was afforded this young lady??? For what it is worth, in my opinion if Arti Cameron was given the chance and the “support” needed to compete her chances would have been amazing and Guyanese would have been feeling the pride,,and love, instead of disappointment.
WHAT’S ALL THE FUSS? SHE WLDNT HAVE WON ANYWAY….
seriously, stop hating people. don’t bring young guyanese women who are actually trying to take our country’s name somewhere.
how come when people share their opinion, it’s referred to as Hating? like seriously get over it. Nobody trying to bring down nobody. It’s facts, if you really think about it.
Team ARTI…dis..Team Arti dat! there aint no team Arti- is her father. God knows what is this man’s problem. He needs to get a life and MGW needs to get their acts together. .
This is what happens when people lie, cheat, gives bribe and back stab others, just to get on top and win. Everything falls apart and no one wants to take responsibility of their actions. Both parties should stop blaming each other and for once step up and do the moral thing. This issue is very complex and there are definitely deceptiveness by both sides, some bribery falling out happen and now all hell break loose. The only victims are the innocent people who get dragged into the mess and the Guyanese public, who get bombarded with all these bulls*** articles, What a shame and waste of news slots.
By now, you might know my position on this matter, if you spend the time to read my comments above. Why would you even try to blame Wilfred Cameron? What kind of father will allow crooks like the Hollands mistreat his daughter? I wish more parents had done this before. Through Arti, and her father, guyanese parents will now see the true faces of these pageant organizers in Guyana. I am happy that this is happening. We have so many pageants in Guyana, and if Arti’s story can show all the abuse, lies and deception that occurs, so BE IT. By the way, I spent some time reading your previous comments on articles about Arti, and you really are a HATER. hahahaha
I am not interested in reading your comments nor what you have to say, because you are not the issue. You obviously did not read my comment/s as they clearly blame both sides not just Wilfred Cam. also I don’t have time to hate arti. it Is time for someone to step up and say exactly what other people are thinking (hence the name Honestly speaking), not all this biased comments left by team arti. Also I suggest you find time to do something else, besides searching and finding all the ”comments’ I left.
