The National U-20 Junior Lady Jaguars Team has distributed football equipment
and uniforms to the schools that had participated in the recent Scotiabank/ Pepsi Schools Football Programme at the Main Street Plaza Hotel, yesterday afternoon.
The manager of the Lady Jags team, Colin Baker, told reporters at the presentation that the gears which were donated by the players of Lady Jags will be distributed to Queens College, East Ruimveldt Secondary, Lodge Secondary, North Georgetown Secondary, Tucville Secondary, Tutorial High, Christ Church Secondary and St George’s High.
This year will mark the second year of the Scotiabank/ Pepsi Schools Football Programme. The second stage is expected to start in December with which training for coaches and referees will be available.
Baker notified this publication that one of its present members (Shonette Gasper) from the Lady Jags was apart of the School Programme and is currently the U-17 goalkeeper for National Team (Lady Jaguars).
The Technical Director, Mark Rodriguez also declared that the donations which were made to the School Programme, is a tradition of the Lady Jags. “Every time the overseas players of the Lady Jags travel Guyana to represent the country at games, they would usually bring gears which aid in the development of women’s football in Guyana…it is all about helping the youths since they are the future.”
The representative of Demerara Distilling Limited (DDL) was also delighted to be associated with the Football School Programme, “…we would like to thank the Lady Jags for making us proud and we will continue to be committed to sports as it plays a fundamental role in our society, “Mr. Wills said.
