A Brazilian-registered small plane reportedly used Guyana airspace on Wednesday to enter Suriname illegally was ejected from that country.
According to reports from Suriname, the Cessna 206 bearing registration PR-XR-AU was carrying three passengers and the pilot but ran low on fuel while flying.
Yesterday, Transportation Minister, Robeson Benn, said that he was unaware of the incident but would investigate.
Attempts to make contact with Director of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Zulfikar Mohammed, proved futile.
According to the reports from the Dagblad Suriname online news, the pilot admitted that he diverted from his flight plan.
The Cessna 206 was just 20 miles from the Johan Adolf Pengel airport, when he contacted air-traffic officials there to land because of low fuel.
He was authorized to land at Zanderij.
According to a news report, the police force was immediately called in.
From information, the plane flew from Boa Vista through Guyana.
It is believed that the pilot had intended to land in a gold mining area but ran out of fuel.
The plane was also checked for drugs but nothing was found.
After refueling, the plane was allowed to go.
