A post mortem has concluded that 39-year-old, Sarojanie Persaud, died from brain haemorrhage and cirrhosis.
The housewife died at the Suddie Public Hospital Corporation on Wednesday, three days after she was admitted a patient at the hospital.
According to information, Persaud, who resided at Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, suffered from constant abuse at the hands of her husband, Danishwar Arjune.
Persaud’s mother, Shriwattie Persaud, a/k Auntie Meena, said that on two different occasions her son-in law attempted to murder her daughter.
The visually impaired woman recounted that on one instance, Arjune tried to force her daughter’s face in a barrel of water. On the other two occasions, he tried to forced her neck into a noose.
Mrs.Persaud said that her daughter was even forced to consume alcohol by her husband who used to purchase it for her. “He used to buy the alcohol and tell her to drink it.”
Persaud stressed that for the last six months, however, her daughter fell ill and was diagnosed with a series of complications.
Persaud’s son, Bisham Arjune, said that his mother was physically abused by his father on many occasion. Persaud has two adult daughters and a teenaged son.
Her husband was released on $20.000 station bail.
Police found Persaud lying in an unconscious state on Sunday last. She died three days after she was admitted a patient at the Suddie Public Hospital.
Police have now said they will not charge Arjune for his wife’s death.
