20 Guyanese graduate with UWI’s Master of Science

Some 20 Guyanese who read for a Master of Science Degree in Global Studies at the University of West Indies (UWI) are set to be honoured during a special ceremony next week.
According to a release from the UWI, St. Augustine Campus, the classes were conducted by its Institute of International Relations.
“This first Guyanese cohort commenced classes in September 2010 and satisfied the requirements for the award of the Master of Science in Global Studies, a fully accredited degree of the University of the West Indies.”
To fulfill the requirement for the award of the Master’s Degree, the students were required to successfully complete a number of courses and were exposed to topics including international trade and development, international economic law, globalization, multilateralism and hemispheric politics and governance.
Each student also completed a major research project. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Mark Kirton of the UWI Institute of International Relations.
The official graduation of the successful students took place in Trinidad and Tobago on September 28, last.
In honor of the group, the institute will be hosting a special ceremony in Guyana at the Ocean View Convention Centre, Liliendaal, on Wednesday.
According to UWI, the occasion will see the presence of Ambassador Albert Ramdin, Assistant Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS) who will deliver the feature address.
Dr. Anthony Peter Gonzales. Director of the Institute of International Relations will also address the event.
