An East Canje youth will spend the next year in the custody of the state at the New Opportunity Corps after he pleaded guilty to the charge of damage to property.
The youth appeared before Magistrate Fabio Azore at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court where the penalty was imposed. However, this was not before a probation report was ordered by the magistrate.
The report stated that the young man was not attending school and was a regular troublemaker who was involved in various infractions some of which are engaging the attention of the court.
According to prosecutor, Inspector Donna Grant Fraser, on October 4, at Adelphi Village East Canje the youth unlawfully and maliciously rooted up three bora plants valued at $1,500, property of his father.
It is understood that the youth and his father had a misunderstanding and he was put out of the house. On the day in question he returned to the property and after another dispute arose he proceeded to uproot the bora plants which were in the yard. A report was made and he was arrested and charged.
