The home of a Reliance, Essequibo family went up in flames yesterday. No one was at home around 14:00 hours when the fire started.
According to a relative of the occupants of the well furnished house situated at Back Street, Reliance, a little child saw smoke emanating from the building and alerted his grandfather.
According to the relative, neighbours subsequently alerted the fire service which arrived promptly but encountered difficulty in obtaining water to extinguish the flames.
The house was well furnished. The owner works out of the Region but visited the Coast over the weekend to attend a graduation ceremony.
The family suspects that the fire may have been the work of an arsonist, because of an indication of spray paint which was noticeable on the veranda.
“A bicycle parked in the yard had the said spray paint that was observed on the veranda and the paint appeared to be fresh, said a neighbour.
Investigations are ongoing.

where is the water canon?
Land of many water and the fire service coming empty and expect to get everything set of them.
Well the Essequibo never had fire hydrants and as such the firemen would have to depend on the 400 gallons of water on the fire tender to extinguish the fire.
As I said above no hydrants and therefore the only alternative is a canal, swimming pool or a river for water and if none are accessible then unfortunately the home is destroyed by fire.
As the fireman will then have to shuttle water to the fire in order to extinguish the fire maybe if the had two fire tenders in the Essequibo the damage could have been minimized.
Sorry my brother. This is such a tragedy on our family. May Jehovah help us all.
