After much pleading, the family of now eight-month-old Daniel Goberdhan, managed to raise enough money from the public to take little Daniel to India for Palliative Surgery in the form of a Blalock-Tausig shunt which is currently not available in Guyana.
Daniel and his mother left Guyana yesterday after their flight was postponed due to an oxygen mishap for young Goberdhan.
Thanks to the public, Daniel now has a chance at a new beginning. He is scheduled to undergo surgery this weekend. He and his mother will have to spend three additional weeks under intense observation.
Daniel’s father, Andrew Prashad, who is a painter, explained that his son’s liver is situated where the heart is supposed to be while his heart is on the right side and the stream that is supposed to be between the heart and liver is at the bottom left of his abdomen.
He noted that this was revealed by an ultrasound done in Trinidad and Tobago.
A cardiology evaluation was conducted by Dr. Diane Alexander in the twin-island republic on August 25, last and confirmed that Daniel has a complex cyanotic congenital heart disease. It was noted that the surgery cannot be done in Trinidad and Tobago.
A relative said that she is very thankful to the members of the public who have been extremely helpful throughout their family’s tragedy. She is asking them to continue to pray for Daniel’s fast recovery from the surgery.
