The Acting President of the Guyana Football Federation, Franklin Wilson has reveal to Kaieteur Sport in an invited comment that the venue for the CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Caribbean Qualifying Championship has been moved to Uitvlugt Community Centre ground due to current weather conditions.
Guyana is generally known for its two distinct wet seasons and two dry seasons of the year, and seasonal rainfall variability is generally the dominant characteristic of climate in Guyana.
This wet season of heavy rainfall, generally occurs between mid April and the ending of July and between mid November and the ending of January with peak rainfall in December.
The Ag. President declared that the venue chosen (Uitvlugt Community Centre) will be a better pick as the ground will not be water logged as the Capital City grounds would be. “I think the change of venue to Uitvlugt Community Centre ground will be a better pick as this ground will not be flooded by the current weather conditions which of course will hamper us,” Wilson said.
Matches for CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Caribbean Qualifying Championship are scheduled for November 2-6 from 1:30PM and 3:30PM, with the host competing against Anguilla, Dominican Republic and Antigua and Barbuda.
The first match which is slated for Wednesday will see Anguilla and Dominican Republic playing at 1:30PM and then Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda from 3:30PM.
The Championships continues on Friday 4th with Dominican Republic taking on Antigua and Barbuda at 1:30PM and ends with Guyana and Anguilla from 3:30PM.
The final matches will be played on Sunday 6 with Antigua and Barbuda and Anguilla from 1:30PM as Guyana and Dominican Republic will close the curtains with final match from 3:30PM.
This group (Group D) will conclude the first round of CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Caribbean Qualifying Championship. The two top teams from each group will advance to the second round, which will be split into two groups of four and be played in December from 5-12. (Juanita Hooper)
