U-20 Lady Jaguars ready for CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Qualifying Championship

Guyana’s females, CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Caribbean Qualifying Championship team are presently in their second encampment after the first which was held in June in Toronto for the overseas players, after which a local encampment was staged, a week after for the Guyanese girls to continue their preparation for the upcoming meet, which is slated for Wednesday in Uitvlugt.
According to the Manager of the team, Collin Baker, the team composed is a good one as it comprises of a mixture both foreign and local players which inserts more strength and chances of the team qualifying for the second round of the Championship.
The manager disclosed that the team will also see some of the Lady Jags U-17 players as well as the senior players from the Lady Jags team that played in the Gold Cup last year embodying the team on Wednesday.
Baker highlighted to Kaieteur Sport that Guyana’s U-20 team is at the fitness level required to compete, “The local players have been attaining football experience as they have been exposed to recent competitions … the foreign players are at the same level as well, since they too have club practice sessions and are exposed to College competitions.”
Baker noted that the current weather condition has hampered some of the training sessions due to the grounds being waterlogged.
The National team is encamped at Kings Plaza Hotel on Main Street and will hopefully have another practice session from 7AM to 8:30AM before their first match against Antigua and Barbuda on Wednesday at Uitvlugt Community Centre ground from 3:30PM.
The support from Cooperate Guyana, which has been trickling in and the football fans are expected to cheer the Lady Jaguars U-20 players as they seek to qualify for the second round of the CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Caribbean Qualifying Championship. (Juanita Hooper)
