A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has noted with interest the “rantings of Robert Persaud that are being broadcasted far and wide on the PPP/C’s domestic Channel NCN in response to the green wave of citizens that flowed freely through the streets of Georgetown on Nomination Day.”
The political union said that the PPP/C was so shocked and frightened by the size and energy of the masses of working people surging joyfully towards City Hall in support of APNU’s Candidates’ lists, that the spin doctors at Freedom House went to work.
Persaud, according to APNU, called them “
‘thugs’ and “
‘hooligans’ and accused them of attacking the police and jumping over the gate of City Hall.
The party is contending that Persaud owes the citizens of Georgetown an immediate apology.
“True, they did not behave like the docile domestic servants the PPP/C feeds, pays and transports to their rallies… The men, women and children who assembled at the Square of the Revolution, came there off their own free will, full of purpose and enthusiasm,” APNU stated.
A.P.N.U further stated that it is concerned at what appears to be a more sinister motive.
This motive, it said, is to paint APNU supporters as a threat to social order and especially a threat to the Indian community.
“Yet throughout the procession along Brickdam, Camp Street, and Regent Street, citizens lined the pavements waving and cheering on the ‘thugs’ and ‘hooligans’, the party states.
It was noted that all the stores on Regent Street remained open, with owners and workers out on the pavements.
The party said that there was not a single disturbance or threat to people or property throughout the procession.
“Instead, there was music, drumming, chanting and unmistakable exuberance. In their panic, Robert Persaud and his not so merry band of propagandists are attempting to turn their defeat into a victory: a victory for divisiveness and scare-mongering.”
APNU said it will exercise maximum vigilance to ensure that, in pursuit of “this well-worn PPP tactic”, the desperate plots of the provocateurs and mercenaries will be exposed and defeated.
APNU assured that it will not be deflected from its noble purpose to unite all the people of Guyana who yearn for a better future under an A.P.N.U-led Government of National Unity.
