Dear Editor,
The Guyana Football Federation has been embroiled in some amount of controversy and not too nice things, such as injunctions, suspension, etc, etc.
It is my humble opinion that in such crisis it should have been prudent for the so called General Council to meet so that they could have fixed the problem earliest, or is it that other persons have other ulterior interests and motives.
A number of persons have indicated that they are interested in being President of the GFF since Colin Klass has been unfortunately suspended by FIFA for breaching their Code of Ethics; that is another story
Some of the names which were published in the printed media were – Odinga Lumumba, Christopher Matthias, Troy Mendonca & Kashif Muhammad, some other names which are being branded about are Alfred King, Dr Joseph Haynes, Franklyn Wilson, Aubrey Hutson, Vernon Burnett, Troy Cadogan, Bruce Lovell, George Rutherford and the list keeps being extended daily.
Mr Editor, being President of an Association or Federation as huge as Football is serious business and the incumbent should at least say what he or she can do to uplift the standard, moral and integrity of the sport. Football needs a face lift and serious overhauling, the time is now for it to be done, and it can be done with the right leader and team.
I am not aware of many of the hopefuls credentials and in my next letter after doing a survey on the incumbents, I will be profiling the serious contenders to assist the eligible voters.
I am not too versed in football/sports and its politics, but I am educated enough to analyse and comprehend all that is affecting sports and other Organisation be it culture, youth, women, trade unionism, etc.
Theresa
