– on carnal knowledge charge
Former President of the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU), Colwyn King, was yesterday committed to stand
trial in the High Court on charges of being sexually involved with a teenage girl at a city hotel.
King, was granted $350, 000 bail on November 13, 2009 on the charge of carnal knowledge.
Magistrate Fazil Azeez committed King to stand the High Court trial at the conclusion of the Preliminary Inquiry into the matter.
King was arrested on the charge in mid-October 2009, while he was the serving President of the GTU and Administrator of the Guyana Industrial Training Centre at the time. He subsequently resigned.
After he was told that he would have to stand trial, King maintained his innocence saying that he will keep his evidence and present it in the High Court when the case begins next year.
