Sixteen teams will battle from toady the three-day Guyana Cup Open and Guyana Masters Cup Twenty20 softball competitions set to be played at four different venues in the capital city, Georgetown.
The venues are GCC Ground Bourda, Everest Cricket Ground, Queens College Ground and the Carifesta Sports Complex Ground.
Preliminary matches and semi finals will be played at these venues today and tomorrow while the two finals are set for the Everest Ground on Sunday from 10:30hrs with an admission fee of $500 being charged. No admission fees will be charged for matches today and tomorrow.
Eight teams are lined up to face off in the two competitions.
Guyana Cup Open will be for male players of any age with the eight teams participating divided into two zones of four teams each. The semi finals are set for tomorrow from 13:30hrs. Teams in this category are from Canada, Florida, New York and Guyana.
A winning prize of $600,000 and trophy is at stake with the runner-up receiving $200,000 and trophy. The man-of-the-match will also collect a trophy.
Guyana Master’s Cup will attract players over the age of 40 and will be contested using the same format as the above competition. A top prize of $400,000 and trophy will be up for grabs with the runner-up team pocketing $100,000 and trophy. Man-of-the-match will get a tropgy while most valuable players for each tournament will receive a 10 penny weight, 14 carat men’s bracelet each.
There will also be four female teams involved in the three Ten10 exhibition softball matches on Sunday at the prior to the respective finals.
