Chess players will match wits once again when the Guyana Chess Federation stages a Chess competition which will serve as the lead up to the 2011 National Senior championship, on Sunday October 30 at the KEI-SHAR’S Sports Club, 1 Hadfield St. Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
The players would compete over eight rounds and in a two tiered tournament for junior and senior players and each participant will be allotted 90 minutes per game plus an additional 30 seconds increment per move. Scoring of moves is compulsory and players are asked to walk with a pen.

The top seven performers emerging from this tournament will subsequently convene in mid-November to challenge Senior National Champion, Taffin Khan, for his title.
The tournament consists of eight rounds and all senior and junior chess players are invited to participate. Each player will be allotted 90 minutes per game plus an additional 30 seconds increment per move. Scoring of moves is compulsory and players are asked to walk with a pen.
Rounds one and two will be played on Sunday October 30 while round three is slated for November 1 at 17:30hrs, Round Four will be contested on November 3, also at 17:30hrs while rounds five and six are scheduled for Saturday November 5 beginning at 13:00hrs.
The final two rounds are scheduled for Monday November 7 from 10:00hrs. The tournament is sponsored by Smart Parts Auto Spares.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Smart Parts Auto Spares, Melissa Chattergoon, recently handed over the sponsorship cheque to Secretary of the GCF, Vishnu Rampersaud, who in turn expressed gratitude for the support.
