Residents of the Tiger Bay Community can look forward to a merry Christmas following the
conclusion of the Giftland Office Max second annual charity event at the Beepat’s residence Lot 5 Area G Montrose ECD, Saturday evening last. The organizers disclosed that they have raked in more than $300,000.
More than 300 attendees were treated to music, dances, skits and other forms of entertainment provided by employees of the Giftland Office Max and other local artistes the likes of Tennicia De Freitas, B52, Michelle Big Red King, the Crystallite Dancers, Timeless Dance Group, Gialiani, Michael Smith and Mr. James from Sidewalk Café.
Members of the cast of ‘Nothing to laugh about’ also joined host, Kirk Jardine, aka Chow Pow, and had the crowd in stitches. The spectators were also treated to several displays of self defense by a team of karatekas from the Black Hawks Karate Associate. There were also several special invitees including Hugh Ross, Celeste David and Sonia Noel.
The function had its genesis last year when Giftland Human Resources Manager, Jade Beepat, concerned for the children of the Tiger Bay community, decided to host a concert with a bifurcated objective.
The forum enabled the staff of Giftland to showcase their talent while procuring funds to facilitate the gift sharing exercise. Marketing Manager (Giftland Office Max), Compton Babb told Kaieteur News that the gesture is merely a small token by the management of his company to express gratitude for the support rendered by the residents. He pointed out that Giftland has been operating in the Tiger Bay community for a number of years and felt obliged to support developmental projects in the community.
He also revealed that several other corporate entities have pitched in to make the occasion the huge success it was. “On behalf of the management of Giftland Office Max I would like to thank Escape Café and Ainlim for their contributions towards making the night a success and we look forward to their continued support for Season 3 in 2012,” exhorted Mr. Babb.
