Guyanese poet Ras Aaron Blackman is paying tribute to Guyana and West Indies cricket great,
Clive Hubert Lloyd, in his recently released book of poems “Revelation Pon Creation Series II”.
The book contains 37 poems that were compiled over a 26-year period from 1984-2010, touching on social, economic, cultural, political and spiritual issues, with a focus on youth and community development.
Copies of his book have been requested by the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus to be placed in its library.
Blackman decided to dedicate the book to Lloyd who he considers a legend and a genius who with his team ruled world cricket for almost two decades and must be recognized as the most successful West Indies cricket Captain ever, and among the best in the world.
He also credits Lloyd for being an advocate for better financial rewards for professional cricketers the world over.
Blackman began writing poetry in 1984 at the mouth of the Potaro River while working as a gold miner where he completed 20 poems which were submitted for the Guyana Prize for literature in 1987 and received creditable mention from the judges.
He has performed at international venues such as the Jean Pierre Complex in Trinidad, the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts in Barbados and the 100th anniversary of Harrison College, also in Barbados.
In Guyana, Blackman has performed at many national and community cultural events, and he hopes that his recent book of poems will be approved for use in the nation’s primary and secondary schools.
The official launching of the book on a compact disc and DVD will take place on Tuesday November 1 at the Upscale Restaurant at 19:00 hours.
