A discussion in politics ended in the death of 31-year-old Vishundat Subramanie of 66 Fourth Street, Johns, Port Mourant, Corentyne.
According to a police press release, Subramanie was stabbed in the abdomen on Saturday last by a colleague with whom he was drinking at the famous Juliet’s Bar at Strand, New Amsterdam, where the former Guyana Power and Light Office used to be.
According to the man’s aunt Monica Balikarran, she was at home around 18:30 hrs on Saturday when she received a phone call from the New Amsterdam hospital asking her if she is a relative of Subramani and the caller telling her to come to the hospital immediately.
The woman said that she could not make it at the time and told the caller that she would go in the morning. She said she went on Sunday morning and observed her nephew with a gash across his belly and a wound to his head.
He had a lot of tubes attached to his body.
He was conscious and she enquired from him what happened. He told her that he and others were drinking at the rum shop where he stays.
After a while they got in to an argument over politics. “A Big Man called Boogie went and collect a cutlass from a motor bike and pull it across me belly.”
He succumbed to the injuries on Wednesday morning at 04:15 hrs. Subramanie was deported from the United States in 2000 and was staying by his aunt, Monica Balkarran, of Johns Settlement.
According to Balkarran, she does not have any documents or photos of the man who wandered from place to place. She said he was an alcoholic as well.
“He and a man name ‘Boosie’ was talking about politics and he probably tell the man about he mother and the man had a motorcycle and he took a cutlass from it and chopped Vishundat in he stomach”, she related.
Subramanie’s parents, Nargis and Hemraj reside in Connecticut, USA. When contacted, they said that they would not be able to come to the funeral since Hemraj is not well at this time.
They said that all the funeral arrangements would be taken care of by the aunt, Mrs Balkarran.
Subramani leaves to mourn his mother and two brothers in the USA and another brother in Guyana and other relatives.
Police were up to Wednesday afternoon looking for the suspect who is said to be in his 70s.
