Residents of Albouystown and users of the Albouystown Health Centre say that their health facility needs to get a face lift. “It is time this place look better than this,” the people opined. Our facility needs to look better, they say.
“If someone who does not know the area comes looking for the health centre they would never find it; and I’m speaking from experience,” one woman interjected. No health providing building should look like this, the residents continued.
The facility which is located on the corner of James and Bel Air Streets, residents say, accommodates persons from both the neighboring community of Charlestown and Albouystown. The health centre which has been around for over 23 years according to the residents has served them for years and the institution is currently in a deplorable state.
They claim that they do not understand why the centre has been left in its current condition for such a long time. It’s as if there is nothing wrong with the way the institution looks since it has been like this for quite some time now. Is it that the institution is being ignored, a person asked. No effort is being made to make repairs or to renovate the small establishment that caters for at least two communities.
This is a place where health services are provided and we need a better face on it. The people say that the service is somewhat acceptable, as there are nurses available and doctors could also be found at the location.
Though it is not usually open on weekends the facility does provide a commendable service and persons can receive treatment for their ailments. But the appearance of the building does not compliment the efforts of the health persons working there, the community persons’ scrutiny continued. The outer appearance of the facility, they say could easily cause the building to be mistaken as being abandoned.
The building is desperately in need of a new paint job. The metal grills that service as a security measure had rot away leaving large holes in the mesh. Some windows were broken and louvers were missing. The residents say the ceiling could also use some work as it is slowly deteriorating.
The building is dusty and dirty and the total outlook of the institution is becoming an eyesore, the complaining residents opined.
The users of the service institute also claim that it is long overdue that the building be renovated. “It looks so dull and abandoned on the street corner, giving no indication that this place provides a health service. We have been using here for years, its time the persons responsible give us a good look” they reiterated.
Members of the community say they are not trying to enrage, point fingers or lay blame on anyone, they just believe that more could be done for the health institution. They say their health care providers need a better and healthier environment to perform their jobs. The residents ask that the relevant officials in charge of maintaining the establishment take into consideration their plea.
The Albouystown Municipal Health Centre is the only such establishment in the community and residents expressed their appreciation for the facility but declared they are ready for a new look.
