Spokesperson for Air Services Limited, Annette Arjoon, has stated that the gold which reportedly went missing from one of the aircraft on Tuesday has been recovered and returned to its owner, Eldorado Trading Company.
However Arjoon stated that contrary to reports in this publication the gold was worth $5M and not $50M. There are reports that the three persons who were detained to assist with the investigation have since been released from police custody.
Arjoon said that this incident is indeed unfortunate and while she is yet to get the details, she stated that her company’s policy is not to transport cash and gold. She noted that there are persons who would normally charter an aircraft to do just that.
Initial reports are that the gold was discovered missing around 09:45 hours on Tuesday, shortly after the aircraft had landed at the Ogle Airport.
Kaieteur News understands that the gold belonged to the Eldorado Trading Company, which is operating in the North West District.
According to reports, a company official had given the gold to the pilot in two white paper parcels to bring to the city where he was to hand it over to a company employee. However, the pilot is claiming that after landing at the airport, he forgot the precious metal in the aircraft and went into the terminal. About five minutes later he realized his mistake, but by the time he returned to the plane to retrieve the gold, it had vanished.
A report was made and an investigation was immediately launched by the Guyana Police Force.
