Surujnarine shines for Albion
The Universal DVD Berbice First Division Twenty/20 Cricket Competition continued on Sunday with five second round of matches and former Berbice batsman Renwick Batson turned in an outstanding all round performance for Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets in their match against West Berbice.
He slammed 60 (5 fours and 3 sixes) which together with 32 (2 sixes and 1 four) from Guyana Under-19 allrounder Clinton Pestano steered Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets to 153 for 5. Batson then opened the bowling and took 3 for 22 to see West Berbice bowled out for 94.
Pacer Jermaine Reid took 3 for 21 and two other pacers (Junior Blair & Sherwin Murray) picked up two each for Skeldon Community Centre to restrict Young Warriors to 133 for 9. Murray then slammed the day’s highest score of 62 (1 four and 4 sixes) in a losing effort as Skeldon fell for 120 in reply. Earlier in the day, in a rain affected 6-0vers-a-side affair, Skeldon enjoyed a win over Police “B” Division after scoring 53 for 7 and restricting Police to 29 for 7.
This year’s Guyana TCL Under-19 batsman, Kandasammy Surujnarine played two match-winning innings to help Albion bounce back after their loss to Edinburgh on Saturday.
In their first match of the day, Under-15 offspinner David Latchaya took 4 for 19 and Guyana Under-15 all-rounder Sharaz Ramcharran bowling offspin, had 3 for 18 as Albion dismissed Port Mourant Karibee Rice for 76. When Albion replied, Surujnarine hit 39 N.O (6 fours) and former West Indies batsman Narsingh Deonarine 34 (2 fours and 2 sixes) to guide then to a nine wicket victory in 10.1 Overs. The pair put on 68 for the first wicket after Veerapen Permaul retired hurt with the score on 8.
In Albion’s other match against Memorex Bermine, Guyana Under-19 all-rounder Joemal La Fleur slammed 48 (3 fours and 1 six) but with his Guyana team-mate, left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie Kanhai taking 3 for 23, Memorex Bermine was restricted to 120 for 6. When Albion replied, they struggled before Surujnarine and Deonarine saw Albion to victory at 122 for 4 in 19 Overs and putting them at the top of their group’s points table.

With the match reduced to 6-Overs-a-side due to rain, Skeldon Community Centre, losing the toss and sent in to bat first, 53 for 7 in 6 Overs with Anthony Bramble and Narendra Gopaul 13 each. Bowling for Police offspinner Andel Doris took 2 for 31 from 2 Overs. Police 29 for 7 in 6 Overs. Bowling for Skeldon Community Centre, leftarm spinner Mark Lionel and Jermaine Reid, each took 1 for 3 from 1 Over. The competition continues on Friday.
