A man is currently before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a Bureau of Standards officer and also for using threatening language against the man.
Appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry, Kennard Ramah, of Lot 1000 Twelve Street Diamond Housing Scheme, pleaded not guilty to the two charges.
It was alleged that at the La Penitence Market in Georgetown on October 23, last, Andrew Kurtzious who is employed at the National Bureau of Standards, went to a stall owned by Ramah, to conduct regular weights and measurement surveillance exercises.
The complainant proceeded to use his device which is used to check scales and other devices used by stall owners. The defendant objected to the Bureau of Standards officer using the device on his equipment and ordered Kurtzious to remove the device.
Ramah picked up a chopper and began to advance toward the Bureau of Standards man and threatened him. He further placed the chopper on the complainant’s hand as he continued to demand the removal of the device from his stall.
Kurtzious sustained a scrape as a result of Ramah placing the chopper on his hand by the defendant. The matter was later reported to the Police Station where Ramah was detained and charged with the offence.
The prosecution saw no reason to object to bail only that the sum be substantial. A bond to keep the peace was placed on the man, pending the conclusion of the matter. He was also granted bail in the sum of $40,000.
Ramah will make his next court appearance on October 31.
