Papo Haniff with a total gross of 148 over two days carted off the R1 Vodka Guyana Open
Last year’s champion Avinash Persaud concedes defeat and shakes the hand of new champion Papo Haniff on Sunday.

Haniff, regarded as one of the better golfers to originate from this country, though playing below his opening day standard carded a gross 77 on the day which was enough to hold off a resurgent Mohanlall Dinanauth, who closed with an impressive score of 72 to go with the 81 he posted on the first day for a total of 153 which ensured that he ended as the runner-up.
In third spot was S. Deosarran, who prevailed on the count back after three players ended with a total gross of 156.
The two other players to tally the same gross were Vijay Deo and Avinda Kishore and they finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Defending champion Avinash Persaud closed with a total gross of 159 after carding a disappointing 81 gross on the final day.
Canadian Roger Rajkumar, who at one time was battling it out with the leaders faltered when it mattered and end with a gross total of 158, while USA’s Salim Rashid played superbly to closed with a total gross of 157 after registering 77 on the last day.
In the Ladies segment, multiple-times winner Christine Sukhram added her name once more to the Lien Trophy with a consistent performance on the final day to successfully defend her title.
She ended with a total gross of 164, while Suriname’s Petra Beems finished second after carding a total of 185.
Guyana’s Joann Deo ended third with a total gross of 196.
Sukhram copped the Best Gross and Net for both days in the Ladies category.
In the 0-9 Flight, Haniff won both Best Gross and Net for the first day, while Deo carted off the Best Net and Dinanauth, the Best Gross on Day 2.
In the 10-18 category, Jerome Khan won the Best Net Overall, while in the 19-28 Flight, Mark Lashley won the Best Net overall.

Club President Brian Hackett thanked Banks DIH under its R1 Vodka brand for sponsoring the tournament, adding that the club was encouraged by the relationship between the two entities.
Responses were heard from participants from the USA, Canada, Suriname, French Guiana and Trinidad and Tobago.
