A six-member team that represented the Captain of the Capoey Mission, has tendered its resignation, citing an absence of accountability and poor communication, among other related issues.
The former councillors said that they were forced to tender their resignation because of unattended issues that confronted the body.
Describing the resignation of all six councillors of Capoey as “historic”, one resident said that the time has also come for the immediate resignation of the present Captain, who cannot carry out her duties as a one-man party.
“Since August there was one meeting and thereafter no other,” said one of the former councillors.
The former councillor added that over the years, Mrs. Valarie De Young, the Captain in question was under scrutiny.
According to the former councillor, on October 19, last the councillors, after summoning the Captain to an impromptu meeting all agreed to submit their individual letter of resignation.
De Young is currently seeking advice from the Minister of Amerindian Affairs. She has been serving in that post for almost two terms — four and a half years.
