– Arti Cameron could go to 2012 pageant instead
The Miss World pageant is underway in London, but Guyana’s participation looks doubtful.
Organisers said that Guyana’s representative, Arti Cameron, is still to receive her visa to the United Kingdom.
In a press release, the Miss Guyana World Organisation said Cameron had applied online immediately after receiving the required sponsorship letter from the Miss World Organization and subsequently supplied her biometric information, but she has to wait for a response from the British Embassy.
On Saturday, the Miss Guyana World Committee held a teleconference with Cameron and her team in the USA, along with Mr. Ken Chung, the International Director, who is based in London, to discuss the urgent situation.
All sides involved continue to do everything in their power to have Miss Cameron represent Guyana at Miss World 2011.
The Miss Guyana World Organisation said that contact has been made with the Guyana Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Guyana Consulate in the USA for assistance in resolving the situation.
In the unlikely event that Ms. Cameron does not represent Guyana at Miss World this year, the parties have agreed that Miss Cameron would be designated as “Miss Guyana World 2011-2012” thus affording her the opportunity to represent Guyana at Miss World 2012.
“Should this be the case, this would be a historical honour for Miss Cameron, as she would be the first Queen to hold the title of Miss Guyana World for two consecutive years,” the Miss Guyana World Organisation said.
The committee is also asking that all support be given to Miss Cameron and any decision taken by the Committee as they work to give Guyana the best opportunity of finding success on this world stage.
In recent times, Guyana experienced great success at the Miss Princess of the World Pageant in the person of Soyini Fraser; and its representative at the current Miss Globe in Albania, Aletha Shepherd, is poised for more success.
“…we are of the belief that Miss Cameron stands an excellent chance of winning the Miss World title,” the organisation stated.
