The body of 30-year old Lindener, Safraz Khan, was pulled from the Demerara River yesterday afternoon minutes after he had plunged in to take a swim with friends.
Khan was pronounced dead on arrival at the MacKenzie Hospital where he was rushed immediately after he was pulled out.
According to reports, Khan of South Amelia’s Ward was seen drinking with friends in the vicinity of Richard’s Cheap Corner and Church’s Chicken on Co-op Crescent, Linden yesterday afternoon.
Kaieteur News was told that some of the friends decided to take a plunge into the Demerara River and Khan followed suit.
However soon after jumping into the water, Khan disappeared and a frantic search was launched for him.
After diving for several minutes, his friends managed to locate his body and rushed it to the hospital but by then it was too late.
The dead man’s friends expressed shock at his demise since they described Khan as a very good swimmer. A post mortem examination will be carried out on the body soon.
