The first ever Universal DVD & Universal Solutions sponsored First Division Twenty/20 Cricket Competition starts this weekend with first and second round matches fixed for Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The competition which is organised by the Berbice Cricket Board and bankrolled by the Universal Group Inc of Main & Trinity Streets, New Amsterdam in Berbice will have the current ten Berbice First Division Cricket Teams divided into two groups.
The innovation of having certain venues having two matches on the same day – morning and afternoon – with their home clubs hosting both has been introduced for the first time at the club level to make the competition more attractive to the cricket loving public.
On Saturday, Edinburgh and Young Warriors of Cumberland will play both matches at their respective grounds, while on Sunday, Albion Community Centre and Skeldon Community Centre will have the honours. The morning matches are scheduled to start at 09.00 hours while those in the afternoon are billed for 13.30 hours.
The competition will be played according to International Twenty/20 Rules including coloured clothing, white balls and the one-over-per-side eliminator in the event of a tie.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals from which the winners and losers will advance to finals and third and fourth play-off, both tentatively fixed for Sunday 13th November, 2011 at a venue to be identified.
