He praised the Heads for the outstanding work they are doing and expressed pleasure at the working relationship between the schools and the Club. He urged the Awardees to uphold their high standards and to be role models to every child in the system.
He stated that in his long career as a Youth & Sports Administrator, he has never encountered such indiscipline and care free attitude from youths.
Foster called on the Head Teachers to instill the importance of education and discipline, respect for authority and the elderly and the need to have faith in God. He also urged that sports including cricket be promoted as an alternative to a life on the road.
President of the Guyana Teachers’ Union, Colin Bynoe, who was among the Awardees, congratulated the RHTY&SC for its continued investment in education and sports. Bynoe also called on Teachers across the Guyana to continue their good work as their main goals should be to prepare the students to become the future leaders of Guyana.
Bynoe also took the opportunity to inform the educators present of the efforts of the Guyana Teachers’ Union to improve their working environment. Headmistress of the Corentyne Comprehensive High School Ms. Nirmala Hoosain, speaking on behalf of the Awardees, expressed gratitude to the Club and its cricket teams for making the Head Teachers feel appreciated.
She noted that being a Head Educator can sometimes be stressful and to be recognised and honoured serves as a motivation for the future. She praised the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club for the great work they are doing in Berbice, describing the Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster as a gem and remarkable administrator.
Each of the Awardees received a collection of gifts including kitchen appliances and telephones. The RHTY&SC is expressing gratitude to Mr. Leon Davis and Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc. for co-sponsoring the programme.
