All systems in place for successful hosting
Sixteen teams have been short listed to compete for honours when the Guyana Cup Open Twenty20 and the Guyana Masters Cup Twenty20 gets underway at the Everest Cricket Ground and the Carifesta Avenue Sports Complex from October 28-30 next.
Half of this number will compete for the Guyana Cup Open T20 with 4 teams from North America and a similar number from Guyana in a two-zone format. Each team plays 2 matches on the opening day and three matches on the following day.
The two top teams from each zone will advance to the semi-finals at 13:30hrs on Saturday 29. Subsequently, two semi-final matches will be played at Bourda with two others at Everest. The two finals will be on played Sunday 30th at Everest Cricket Club Ground.
The organisers were forced to omit two local teams from the original line but even as they expressed regret, they intimated that this was necessary to facilitate the smooth running of the tournament.
Subsequently, they have readjusted the format for the Sunday Games at Everest. As such, the 4 female teams to take part in 3 exhibition matches are Mikes Wellwoman, 4R Lioness, Rosehall Females and Trophy Stall Angels.
The timings or the respective matches are: 10:30hrs-first female semi-final Ten10; 11:45hrs second female semi-final Ten10; 13:00hrs Guyana Master Cup Final T20; 15:45hrs Guyana Cup Open T20; 18:45hrs Female Ten10 final; 20:00hrs Presentation Ceremony; 20:30hrs Conclusion of Guyana Softball Cup 2011.
Meanwhile the teams participating in the Guyana Cup Open T20 are NYSCL All Stars (New York Softball Cricket League), Florida Hurricanes, Dant X1 Canada, SFSCL All Stars (South Florida Softball Cricket League), Memorex, Cotton Field Wild Oats, Regal, and Trophy Stall while those comprising the Guyana Cup Masters T20 are: NYSCL Legends, New York President’s X1, Softball Cricket International of Miami, Canada Beavers, Floodlights, Regal Seniors, Albion Masters and Savage Masters.
The sponsors of the tournaments are Steve’s Jewelery, The Trophy Stall, Mike’s Pharmacy, Digicel, Busta Soft Drinks, Bel Air Texaco, Survival, Clear Waters, Ray’s Auto Sales.
