Rudolph Mitchell anxious to preserve unbeaten streak
Over the years, national race-walk champion, Rudolph Mitchell has dominated the race walk track so much so that he has compiled a record 117 victories on the trot. He will be anxious to extend his unbeaten streak when he laces his boots for the Cavalier’s Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) Race-walk Fiesta around the Soesdyke area on Sunday October 23 next in what the organizers have said is one of the activities planned to create a framework for the development of the sport.
The 10K race gets underway at 06:00hrs at the Harry’s Photo Studio, Back Road Soesdyke, proceed around the community and back to its place of origin. Later on, also on that day, the walkers would compete in ten race walk sprints, also within the Soesdyke Community.
Mitchell will have to overcome his fiercest arch-rivals, the likes of Jeremy Cornelius and Maurice Fagundes among others. Prolific female competitor, Donna Ramkissoon will also be in the reckoning but will have to be wary of Janet Reid.
Meanwhile CSTC coordinator, Ms. Olga Harry is appealing to the government and members of the Corporate Community for assistance towards the sustenance of the sport. She is asking for donations in the form of trophies, medals, water or any form of assistance that could be extended towards the success of planned activities.
Interested donors are asked to make contact with the coordinator at the club’s Soesdyke headquarters, 222 Back Road Soesdyke or on telephone #s 654 4113 or 261 6649.
