Defending Men’s champions Godfrey Lowden / Phillip Squires are still the firm favourites to
win this year’s title when the Doubles Tournament sponsored by Trophy Stall serves off this Saturday, at the Pegasus Hardcourts, Kingston.
According to a release from the Guyana Tennis Association action in the competition will be played on weekends, starting from 16:00 hrs and weekdays if necessary.
Four categories have been identified and they are: Men’s Doubles, Ladies Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Men’s Over 40 Doubles and keen rivalry is anticipated in each category. In the Over-40 division, long standing pair Omar Persaud and Lowden will be difficult to beat and should start as the favourites.
Today is the closing date for entries and interested persons could contact Tournament Coordinator Andre Lopes at Ram & McRae’s Office, 157 Waterloo Street, North Cummingsburg.
Forms are also available at Ram & McRae offices, Pegasus Tennis Courts and from all coaches.
Meanwhile, in the Ladies segment, top junior pair Aruna Ramrattan and Shawna Gentle is the favourites to win, but this category is also stacked with a lot of talent and is expected to provide some crowd pleasing matches. Matches will be played as best of three sets with a super tie-break deciding set to determine the winner.
