Firemen hold exhibition at Fogarty’s
The curtain came down on Fire Prevention Week, on Friday with the members of the Guyana Fire Service hosting an exhibition on the pavement outside Fogarty’s Limited in Georgetown.
The firemen gave the public insights into all the equipment used not only in fire prevention but also in fire suppression.
Among these items were the different kinds of extinguishers as well as fire alarms, smoke detectors, first aid kits and many more useful and life saving articles.

‘Section Leader’, S. Crawford, said that the Guyana Fire Service had also invited Companies such as Associated Industries Ltd (AINLIM), National Hardware Ltd and Farfan and Mendes, who also had their safety items on display and assisted in persuading persons to not only buy these items but to care and upgrade them as frequently as they could so as to ensure that they are in working order.
Crawford also advised that persons spend money on “insuring” their lives and the lives of others as well as valuables in their homes or businesses.
Other members of the Guyana Fire Service said that it is of utmost importance that at least one fire extinguisher is present in each home.
The firemen demonstrated to members of the public how to operate the different kinds of safety equipment.
Over the past week, the events hosted in observance of this year’s Fire Prevention Week targeted young audiences. As such, students from different schools across the country attended the events staged at Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground, National Park, National Stadium and Lusignan Center Ground.
